There's a whole missing section of this post; the Extensible Web vision is driving Web Audio to a great place.https://twitter.com/bz_moz/status/908372747000172544 …

...and it was always a non-starter to have your audio processing running through the main thread. Simply unworkable.

The @w3ctag review generated great conversation that re-opened many fundamental design questions.

This new design *doesn't* take the glitch-prone "we'll just do it on the main thread" approach, but gives us scriptability & low latency

Draft proposal was main thread by default. Same flaw as the old ScriptAudioNode.

No, there was never any main-thread sample processing in my proposal (https://dvcs.w3.org/hg/audio/raw-file/tip/streams/StreamProcessing.html#processedmediastream …).

What I proposed wasn't quite as good as AudioWorklet. But we probably could have made it so, if there had been interest.

So @rocallahan did implement workers audio too, just for some reason didn't spec? Tsk, tsk. But enough main thread only strawman ok?
