Also this entire hypothetical is only focused on situations when someone else is building components and you are only consuming them.

In my experience, when you are working on an app, you are building and consuming the components

Yes, because there has been no basis for an ecosystem of portable/reusable components. This is exactly where web components move the needle.

They said this with css, we got bootstrap, and still every major website has plenty of custom CSS, even if they are using bootstrap

Yes, this is another area where web components move the needle. ShadowDOM offers powerful encapsulation. Often way faster than CSS-in-JS.

This has nothing to do with what we were previously discussing. Also shadow dom doesn’t render until JS executes, making it MUCH slower.

Please check out this great blog post on the topic https://meowni.ca/posts/shadow-dom/ … (at least the CSS-in-JS section)

I am baffled at how this is up for debate. Static rendered CSS, vs markup & CSS that requires a JS parse to show up?

That *might* be faster for an initial layout, but any dynamic content will likely benefit from Shadow DOM where we use a separate resolver.
