UBI is often something wealthy Bay Area residents toss around as a "solution" while supporting lobbying against tax & building infra/homes

OTOH, assuming industry won't use AI to displace (particularly in knowledge industries where they pay high wages today) is fantasy.

*particularly* where trans-national effects allow regulatory arbitrage. Also, knowledge workers are the least unionized.

This hasn't gone well for other transitions. I'm reminded of: https://fivebooks.com/interview/dani-rodrik-on-globalisation/ … And: https://www.amazon.com/Stability-Growth-Macroeconomics-Liberalization-Development/dp/0199288143 …

...and yet, we don't see voluntary movement toward better outcomes en masse. The wealthy only rarely donate/pay large %s of wealth.

And even if the wealthy started paying more in tax than technically required (none of them do, it seems -- how civic-minded), look at firms

So the only functional mechanism you could imagine UBI deriving from (taxes) is being actively undermined by those who'd pay the most.

Agree that the politics of getting to UBI are tough. Corps and the rich fight against it. But I think we will get there via the ballot box
