Yes, please! It all should start with solid analysis of diffing alg characteristics and comparing to alternatives (ex. incremental DOM).

I'd happily settle with a simpler lower level API: A Collection of DOM operations for the browser to perform in the most efficient way

Standardise it too early and we would be stuck with a sub-optimal algorithm for years to come. Not great for innovation / new ideas.
