      3) Each platform seems to move into a direction where they have a "preferred" web runtime that powers "apps", as a forced choice.

      4) I don't know if this is good or bad yet, but I understand the reasoning for shipping a "tightly integrated" engine with the OS.

Kenneth, I suggest you dig more deeply into the experience of users in EM re: Android. Browser competition alive, well, and thriving.

UC browser is HUGE. Many (most?) massive apps in China use non-OS-provided webviews.

And you should try a Samsung device. PWAs work great from S Browser.

So I get where you're going with the narrative, but it isn't supported by the lived reality of the ecosystem you're discussing.

I don't have the numbers from Android, but I would expect the majority of WebViews to be powered by Chrome. The OS provided engine.

I probably am! Would be great if we got transparent web-view market share data from each platform.

Worth factoring in Custom Tabs too. From a few apps I tested, most used a @samsunginternet Tab, b/c it's my default: https://medium.com/samsung-internet-dev/custom-tabs-for-samsung-internet-8563e4754b22 …

I don't question the value of openness, but how real the browser choice in reality is. Would love to discuss this over 🍻🍺!

I'd love that. I definitely think there are things I could learn/do to help Google better serve users long-term also.
