Hot take: Java ListenableFutures are better for SSR than JS promises because one can ask isDone to decide whether to flush before waiting.
We take feature requests ;-) That said, Promises only delay until end of current microtask. You can flush before return to the event loop

You only want to flush if you need to wait longer than current event loop since flushing is expensive.
