Need to dig into this and explain a few things: 1. Perf doesn't get good by magic. Never one thing, it's always many little thingshttps://twitter.com/intelligibabble/status/855820975207620608 …

2. The bloat of your baseline defines how much headroom you have for app code. Think of it like a budget: how much is taken by FW?

3. When your app bundle is 2mb, there will be a few things you can do that will have a dramatic effect (code splitting, e.g.)...but not many

4. ...and the real work is in keeping your app under-budget. Getting it there can be more-or-less hard, tho (tool choice matters!)

5. Performance is cultural. If your org does not value 30k JS savings, it will also not value the work to code-split or build dashboards

6. ...and you will not be rewarded in those orgs for building and maintaining the critical infrastructure. Culture *matters*.

7. A good performance culture also helps everyone in it learn more about the systems they build and operate; celebrates perf wins

8. Lastly, this is down to management. If you are a manager and system is unusably slow, it is because org does not value perf...not really.

9. Managers have the ability to shape this; to provide context on decisions and re-frame things to correctly weight (and reward) choices

10. if you're an engineer, ask in your interviews how the org thinks about perf. If it doesn't, and you won't be able to change that, pass.
