The question: Is the the DOM bad? Is the DOM slow? And what is a 'native' target, and how are they 'better' than the DOM?

TL;DR: frameworks that previously advertised speed because "DOM is slow" no longer do so because it simply isn't true.

I'm afraid this is difficult to tease apart and i don't know of books. I mostly look at http://webpagetest.org (and local) traces
