AMP requires Google-controlled and Google-hosted JS. Earth requires Chrome. I miss the Google that supported the Web, not subjugated it.
The AMP team is doing it's own thing and I'll let @pbakaus speak to that. Not sure what's going on w/ Earth. Will ask around.

I would imagine once Webassembly is mainstream then the chrome only APIs will disappear. I noticed the same sentiment immediately though
