You are deferring a lot of work (smart!) but this is not Preact's doing.

Can you explain that? I am literally only deferring the loading of Babel and CodeMirror.

A 322kb web worker is a lot of deferring! Would have been slow had you not done that.

The worker is literally only running babel:https://github.com/developit/preact-www/blob/master/src/components/controllers/repl/runner.js …

If you download only the three initial resources (html/js/css), you're only missing the REPL.

Isn't the REPL the whole point of this page though?

No. The website is an offline-first client-side Jekyl viewer. While the REPL is neat, it's a feature.

Fair enough, I was thinking of the REPL page as an app by itself.

Understandable. I just don't want to conflate the two: this is still a PWA without it.

To your point though: preact is only a component rendering library. There is additional arch at play.

: that sort of arch is where I want to focus. It's why PRPL is so damned good. Not WC; *how they're used*

: and yes, I do put frameworks on the hook both for their default sizes & likely deployed architectures.

I'm *very* (very!) excited to investigate preact + HTML Imports.
