Once -- just once -- I'd like to see prominent Google peeps pitching in to fix these sorts of disasters instead of just excusing them. https://twitter.com/slightlylate/status/1251675260778213376?s=21 …https://twitter.com/slightlylate/status/1251675260778213376 …

This is a microcosm of the culture of performance failure that follows Google everywhere it goes. A perfect, distilled instance of a trend that's so vast it's nearly impossible to get one's head around. https://twitter.com/slightlylate/status/1251673765403963394?s=21 …https://twitter.com/slightlylate/status/1251673765403963394 …

@slightlylate this is bad and slow, but it could be much faster with some small-ish improvements. LMK if you want assistance there https://twitter.com/slightlylate/status/1251694085624066050?s=21 …https://twitter.com/slightlylate/status/1251694085624066050 …Ricky added,

If you dig into the data, you'll see that it's a complex story. This Map site has some late long tasks, but is in general usable from the ~5s mark on a 3G link: https://webpagetest.org/video/compare.php?tests=200419_E5_b0284226d2013d0377283defecde13df-r%3A3-c%3A0%2C200419_RQ_7d92404e9fc558919d13effd65fde874-r%3A2-c%3A0&thumbSize=200&ival=100&end=full …

Sorry, did you happen to see the actual comparison traces?

I'm not familiar with we page test, but I can tell you every one of those links is borderline unreadable on mobile. I've followed most by the accompanying tweets context clues. But I have no idea what's going on in that compare.

The site that folks seem to think is a knock-down argument against Google is something like 10s faster than the site they're making apologies for.
