@craigmod was musing about this, too. The silly thing is that SLR/GoPro manufacturers could easily add software to so this over USB.

Do you want USB out, rather than go through a HDMI converter?

More cables in the nest behind my monitor isn't *attractive*, but less of an issue than mounting, power & overheating, and latency concerns. Feels like there's a real opening in the ~$300-600 price range for a webcam w/ good lights and good glass (dof, e.g.)

Have you looked into using an old phone?

Yeah. It doesn’t answer your question exactly, but yeah—I’ve been using EpocCam and my old iPhone. Works well!pic.twitter.com/Tea9gy2NQJ

just had another quick look and indeed there is huge gap it seems
Either you go webcam + light which you can get okish for ~100-200 bucks
OR you go DSL which is at least 1000 bucks
- Camera: 700+ (super budget option better spend 1500+)
- Lense: 300+
- Link: 130+

-
you can (I did) get a Lumix G7 + a lens used for <$500. of course a CamLink now costs about $2500 and two kidneys on the black market, but hey

I’ve been trying to find this as well...doesn’t seem like it really. The new Logitech streamcam looks maybe an incremental improvement...but it’s no aps-c sensor.
