Yes, but with "backend" in my prev tweet I meant the frontend that admins and editors use to manage the site. React is used there, while it's not used on the user-facing frontend (yet). jQuery is used for both

Maybe I'm too hopeful here, but maybe if that happens it could at least lead to server-side JS becoming more broadly available? I don't care if it's through actual Node or PHP v8js, but if all those shitty WordPress "PHP + MySQL5 only" web hosts offered JS I'd be a happy man

Because I assume they'd want SSR for their React to stay competitive in the SEO, WooCommerce etc game. Probably pre-rendering when saving/publishing a page. So they'd have a "works best with hosts supporting JS" label and hosts would have to improve offerings to stay relevant
