A reasonable middle ground, given that iOS already puts PWAs into a separate storage container, would be to exempt those installed apps from this. Thoughts, @johnwilander?

Maybe the idea is that the seven day timer is per-container, and for a homescreen PWA, booting it starts the timer but also immediately credits it so there is no expiry for those?

So maybe I don't "boot" up my book reader app for X days because I'm stressed about coronavirus and don't feel like reading. So my books get deleted because I'm not reading enough, in Apple's opinion? I don't think longer timer is a fix at all.

From the sound of it, on iOS at least, homescreen PWAs don't really get their storage cleared because the same thing that starts the timer also grants "Use" credit. But yes, a clearer explanation would be helpful.

So what you're saying is that by launching the app you then get infinite days of credit? Or just more days than if you visited it only in browser chrome?

My read of John's remarks is that a homescreen app's origin gets effectively infinite credit, because the app's Scavenger timer can never possibly go above 0.

Ok, I don't understand the "can never possibly go above 0" part, which is my problem. But I'll trust your understanding here :)

A clear "we are not kneecapping PWAs" statement would go a long way
