Well, I kind of know how the sausage is made...so if I recall, the app/shell will be removed, but the data would be saved as it's still part of chrome. At least on pixel devices it is

this is the oneplus 6t if that helps answer: it uninstalls chrome, deletes all open tabs, removes all my settings, and of course data loss across that and all other PWAs i happened to have on.

Woah, it uninstalls chrome all together?? That's seems not right at all. Sounds like a OnePlus specific issue though. Wonder if

if its a OnePlus specific issue.. then i may have possibly picked the absolute worst possible device to try living the Android/PWA life haha
(i also picked a Tmobile locked OnePlus.. which means i have to use Android 9 not 10)4 replies 0 retweets 2 likes -

_me using PWAs on an iphone_ Yep, oneplus might not be a good device for this
Since oneplus is android based, I’d think they’d have all that built in, but it might not1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -

its funny, I was told that oneplus' OS is pretty close to stock android so I was hoping to avoid this sort of unknown unknown (if it is a oneplus issue - i havent verified that my issue doesnt happen on Pixel) I still dont know if this is the Browser or the OS' responsibility

This is very confusing! It *looks* like you didn't get a WebAPK installed (instead, you got a homescreen shortcut, hence the little chrome icon).

What URL were you installing? I'm not aware that GitHub is a PWA.

If you go to something that's a known PWA, e.g. http://airhorner.com or http://coronavirus.app and install them, do they install from Chrome w/o that little Chrome icon in the lower left?

You can find other known PWAs to try this from via http://appsco.pe and http://pwa-directory.appspot.com . Sites that meet the criteria shouldn't generate those sorts of shortcuts but should, instead, end you up with Android apps that you can find in the "all apps" list.

ok, i was talking to a friend about lacking PWAs to try so this is a great list! would it make sense for Chrome to do more to tell me if something is a Verifiable PWA? because having to Add to Home Screen and then find out if it is a PWA or a Shortcut doesn't feel optimal.
