Y'all are watching Apple knife the web to death, one cut a day for a decade. We're way past a thousand cuts, and they sure had help from FB.

Maybe just stop with the conspiracy theories. They really don’t help anyone.

There's no conspiracy. Everyone is doing what incentives suggest absent fair rules of the road. It's slow erosion. Apple killed browser competition because it helps cement native + fears about insecure runtime. FB undermines browser choice on Android for similarly narrow reasons

This is all very dramatic. You just said they were knifing the web to death. Then you said they killed browser competition, and implied they did it intentionally. Sounds pretty conspiracy theory like to me.

Also that’s just patently false. Only on iOS, a minority platform, do they disallow third party browsers. Browser competion is alive and well on other platforms. Sure it could be better, but I don’t think it’s as dramatic as you make it seem.

iOS is ~50% usage share in the US (and as much as ~40% of sales). The US is (like many wealthy nation's) anchored to a legacy of the web mattering because desktop. Most of the world looks nothing like that.

The thing about privilege bubbles is that it's so very hard to see when you're in one. Wealthy nations have a *direct* iOS & competition problem, and emerging markets have an *indirect* version of it because of how tech choices are centered on the west coast of the US.
