Loading megabytes of libraries to update 10k of text on a web page on a phone is a bad look. Use HTTP instead of React. https://twitter.com/slightlylate/status/1236069381953556481 …

I am app developer for Set-top boxes and smartTV which are mostly weak devices and seeing react based apps on these devices makes me sick.

Given the low frame rates I'd expect from that combination, I can only presume you mean literally 🤢

Haha we laugh at this but I see more and more media operators that ask react on tv apps development for « maintanability » because their team or lead refuse to work without

Developers are usually in a privileged position relative to their end-users. This is a tread about taking the responsibilities that come with that structural imbalance seriously.

To paraphrase what a Sr. Engineer once told me as I gawked at the specs of a machine for building Chrome: "we have fast boxes because our users don't" The implication being that it is our job to wring costs out of the system on their behalf.

The BoM TVs doesn't leave room for fast CPUs, and certainly not a lot of horsepower or RAM per pixel. Those are hard constraints about deployed devices. It is the absolute pinnacle of privilege to ignore this reality and serve less-well-off users poorly for one's own comfort.

Most of the restraints an average developer faces are transitively imposed by their employer who often lacks financial resources not to mention technical knowledge to select developers.

I think you do understand. Some constraints are within the developers control while others are imposed.

Most of the time, little companies I've work with, trust devs for tech and only think about their vision of the product. In the other hand big companies are trying to reduce costs and absolutely wants to standardize the work regardless of target constraint because of turnover.

If you're thought is that this issue is caused by lazy developers or lazy companies or that your "solution" is the "right way to be lazy" then YOU are privileged in a way someone else isn't.

We didn't disagree with that or wanted to being condescending. When client absolutely want some framework, I tell him why it's not a good idea but implement in the way he want. I too work for money.
