Developers are usually in a privileged position relative to their end-users. This is a tread about taking the responsibilities that come with that structural imbalance seriously.

To paraphrase what a Sr. Engineer once told me as I gawked at the specs of a machine for building Chrome: "we have fast boxes because our users don't" The implication being that it is our job to wring costs out of the system on their behalf.

The BoM TVs doesn't leave room for fast CPUs, and certainly not a lot of horsepower or RAM per pixel. Those are hard constraints about deployed devices. It is the absolute pinnacle of privilege to ignore this reality and serve less-well-off users poorly for one's own comfort.
