I know some utility classes can be useful, and @tailwindcss helps some devs create pages without (really) knowing #CSS, but is it enough to justify this logorrhea in our HTML ( https://tailwindui.com/preview  )? ⚓️ https://nho.io/n/2020/03/02/2/ pic.twitter.com/y8vDlKPl3N

Have you seen the HTML of your own tweet? it's even worst :) Do you feel it does not work well? The new facebook will be built with a similar logorrhea as well, called atomic css rules, and it scales very well for large sites.https://youtu.be/9JZHodNR184?t=769 …

I didn’t see the HTML of my own tweet because I hate Twitter’s Web client, how it behaves. I know utility classes can help reduce CSS weight, but what about HTML weight, and most important, maintenance, when you want to sync design changes on multiple components?

html size matters only for 1st load, if you have an SPA the remaining experience of the user matters too, this is where this kind of solution will shine (same as @gatsbyjs ) It's way more maintainable than hand written CSS, all those classnames are generated

First load performance is really important both for newcomers and regular users. But most SPA unfortunately don’t even come with proper HTML on first load anyway… 😕 Using Gatsby as a reference won’t help there, even if I know they’re working on it.https://twitter.com/slightlylate/status/1184978669686554624?s=21 …

I wish @eleven_ty had the marketing that @gatsbyjs does. I reliably see good results from it (tho hard to say it's causal -- 11ty sites might be fast because folks who care about speed pick it). Next, Gatsby, and many of the other popular SSGs seem to be unsafe at any speed.

Gatsby has a "no-js" plugin, which is what I'm excited about. Gatsby + the usual JS bloat not usually good (today):https://www.gatsbyjs.org/packages/gatsby-plugin-no-javascript/ …

I saw that in the discussions from the thread I linked to, indeed. That’s a great improvement.
