Increasingly distracted by the Performance Inequality Gap: the difference between those in the high-performance bubble thinking they're increasing richness without decreasing reach, but who are actually tanking reach by making content inaccessibly slow.

I almost think it should be forbidden to test using fast devices + network combos. In a way, it gives already privileged developers/teams a pat on the back that they’re doing good work, while in reality, they’re furthering the gap in the adoption of the web.

For years I've fought a (losing) battle to convince my co-workers that developers should have to *work* to retreat into the perf privilege bubble. The number of times the devtools team has nixed on-by-default CPU/network throttling is something I try not to think about.

Worth noting that *MOST* of Chrome's users are on Android today. And those devices are *mostly* slow. So by not representing those user's experience by default in DevTools, we're knowingly enabling developers to under-serve *our* users.

I know you’ve spoken about this issue at length but I’d love an article (so I can share it with a wider audience via perfemail). we just don’t see this covered enough ☹️

Somehow got to make the performance panel less intimidating - when I show clients how to use it they often say they’ve tried before but find it overwhelming Not sure how resolve that, as I want more not less in that panel
