      > There is a huge difference in engagement between phones and desktops. Phone users are very unlikely to ignore the prompt, whereas desktop users ignore the prompt about half the time on average. The explanation is simple (thread 👇):https://twitter.com/rick_viscomi/status/1227371010841808903 …

Notification permission prompt response rates have landed in today's @ChromeUXReport dataset. I mined the dataset for insights and collected my findings in this post: - 41% rejection is typical 📵 - desktop UX is special 🦄 - ignore is the new reject 🔕 https://dev.to/chromiumdev/yestifications-exploring-how-users-engage-with-notification-prompts-in-the-chrome-ux-report-4h7c … pic.twitter.com/RlLTJ9E9Xa

At Chrome Dev Summit in November, 2017, Chrome team shared an internal data that 90% of permission prompts are dismissed or ignored. And had begun to address this.pic.twitter.com/0G5M9y3MEM

This is how the design of permission prompts in Chrome on mobile has changed over the time since Chrome Dev Summit 2017 till now.pic.twitter.com/cKhuVu1O9B

Long story short: first the close button disappeared, then the "Remember my decision" toogle disappeared, bottom banners have changed to dialogs that block app usage until the user takes an action.

Is the decision now remembered forever? Being able to grant a one-time permission has huge value, especially for permissions like geolocation. I don't want a shop website to be able to track me all the time but sometimes I do want it to locate a store closest to me.

Yes. And this causes a lot of problems. PTAL https://crbug.com/974785  for more info.

TL;DR: Most users don't know how to change permissions. Hint: users should click the lock icon in the omnibox for that. And it doesn't work in standalone display mode for PWA/TWA, because there is no omnibox in standalone mode at all. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Re PWA/TWA: It's very difficult, if not impossible, to explain to users that in order to change permissions for the *app* (installed from the Google Play Store in case of TWA) they need to go to the *browser* (permissions are hidden somewhere deep in the browser settings). 🤯

👍temporary permission grants (especially for location) & delegations of permissions of installed web apps to appropriate device surfaces are both priorities for us this year.

Do you mean implementing Time-limited Permissions (https://github.com/MicrosoftEdge/MSEdgeExplainers/blob/master/TimeLimitedPermissions/Explainer.md …) by @MSEdgeDev team and/or bringing back the "Remember my decision" toggle and the close button to permission prompts?
