I wouldn't think 'desktops' are a dying technology. They simply are becoming a smaller chunk of the bigger compute-pie. Desktops are the producers of technology, as long as we need to type (that includes not liking dictation) to write code/emails, 3D model, design, its staying.

Of course when AR glasses replace 'desktops' they still aren't going away, just the UI now lives in another device. Thats why i'm preparing my render stack to be AR/VR ready.
