      I agree with this thread, but Gatsby et al have exploded so we’ve got to find ways to help people produce smaller sites with it. Of course the onus should be on the community either.       Unpopular opinion: React is the wrong tool for building content websites (blogs, marketing sites, documentation, etc.) today. SSR is not good enough. You end up downloading the content twice: once in the HTML, and again in the JS for hydration. How did this become so common? 😱

      I think a really helpful step from Gatsby would be the ability to disable the client bundle and just get a static output. That would be a great feature.

      This is the only way I can recommend Gatsby to folks today. Gatsby lacks budgets and FB not prioritising JS payload weight (AFAICT), so very little hope that client-side React can be more good than bad over the next year. Time to sequester that shit to server-class CPUs.
