In retrospect the Extensible Web Manifesto was a really bad idea. It's an agreement to focus on features that 1% of developers (generously) can even understand, thus creating a generation of developers who have next to no understanding of the platform they build for.

It was a statement of principles the bend toward humility in a situation where previous attempts failed through hubris. It was not a destination, but rather a map out. With the data we get, we can build better high-level things.

More to the point, it doesn't seem as though anyone bothered to learn the platform anyhow. The JS-first, NPM-enabled regression was afoot no matter what.
