When we built Traceur (the first http://ES.next -> http://ES.now compiler) in '11, we assumed everyone would hate building so much (as we did/do) that they'd fall out of favour in a few years. So glad to (finally!) see this return to sanity.https://twitter.com/rauschma/status/1216719226398027777 …

I remember feeling kind of alone advocating for flatfile development while on Chrome, and even then I've given up on it for TypeScript.
Did you mention TS in the browser as a hypothetical alternative outcome, or is there something floating around for type annotations in JS? -
A TS-like semantic is possible in the language. We prototype that too in Traceur. I'd like to see MSFT bring it to TC39.

I get *significantly* less done these days due to wrangling all these tools than I did back when I just threw a global jQuery library on the page and had at it. But I *feel* like I have more engineering cred and that's worth the wasted time and energy, right? Right?

Can we have import maps ASAP? CMS' like WordPress, Drupal, Joomla, Magento, etc cannot move to modules without it (they do allow installation to subfolder with will break all import...)
Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

I would've thought builders would value having the closest possible connection to their final product first, not so worried about the means. While I agree that any build step means they aren't as close to that, having a build step doesn't require that to be a large distance.

Instead, I'd argue that build steps are less problematic than mental overhead. Having scaffolding is important in any building industry. We have too much, though, which adds overhead. Minimizing mental overhead is the goal. A good build step could actually achieve those things.
