HTML may be a dead language because those who claim to love it can't imagine it being better.https://twitter.com/domenic/status/1206750011322753025 …

This isn't fair, Alex. HTML is not a dead language, and plenty of people who "claim to love it" actively imagine it better. Painting with a broad brush stroke there, aren't you?

The web definitely has a lot of issues right now, but this "the web is dying" thing is.... tiring? Nonproductive?

I also think it’s pretty fair to say that a toast notification is the least exciting and least useful element you could add natively to the browser. We need native components for tabs, accordions, and drop-down menus. We need a modal element that’s actually accessible.

As I’ve told you before, it regularly feels like Google does whatever Google thinks is best for Google rather than what people or the web actually need.

I’m equally critical of how Firefox lags on JavaScript features. And you know what their developers do? They ask questions, and then implement features people want.

If you can't see why what you personally want does not excuse the vitriol leveled at those bringing proposals, we're done here.

I’m not on the receiving end of the complaints, but knowing the web, I’m certain some people are complete assholes about it. That doesn’t mean “the old guard is holding HTML back.”

And I don’t think I ever said that kind of behavior is ok. You’re projecting and discussing this in bad faith.
