Relentlessly bash frameworks: he's doing it for the web! Point out problems with web components: this is not constructive. What are you trying to achieve here?https://twitter.com/thekitze/status/1198597240270532608 …

Hey Evan: I drone on (and on) about the cost of JS, not "frameworks". If your point is that I should be more explicit about which frameworks are leading folks to failure most often in this regard (tends not to be Vue, thankfully), then I'll take that under advisement.

Thanks for the clarification. I was just trying to poke fun at some people's very different reactions to equally valid criticisms toward different targets.

Except the caricature is both wrong (my concern is JS weight, not FW use) and perpetuates a harmful rhetorical trick used by those who deny JS bloat crisis (e.g., folks who preach moderation are somehow not engaged in good-faith efforts to resolve adjacent issues).

I *do* take serious exception to those who shamelessly flog heavy, legacy, desktop-era tools at mobile without warning (when they know better) and take no responsibility for their actions and recommendations *because it hurts teams I work with* -- not to mention the ecosystem.

But that's not hating on frameworks; it's a recognition that we are responsible for the predictable consequences of our actions -- and that some FW folks have acted in deeply irresponsible ways.

I think if the initial messages were framed like this it would have caused much less of a division we see today.

...says someone sowing division with an innacurate charachterisation? There were always folks willing to take message of JS moderation as "anti-framework", no matter how much I corrected. At some point the responsibility for division falls on those who reflexively perpetuate it

My tweet doesn't help and yes I apologize for that. But the original seed of division certainly wasn't planted by me.

Glad we're on the same page. Do you think it would help (or hurt) if I were more explicit about the irresponsible behaviour? It pains me that folks doing a good job are getting lumped in with those who aren't.

Maybe talk about specific problems without pointing at a tool in general or a person. Usually, any tool has both good and bad sides, saying it's all bad usually ends up being personal.

This. Clearly establish there is in fact a problem. Pretty bad conflict of interest seeing Alex (a Googler) claim the world is coming to an end because of JS bloat. Seems awfully close to "but my employer won't be able to serve ads on slow networks"https://twitter.com/tomdale/status/1185268269281730560 …
