I'll end the thread with this: hoping for the day "needing to let a 3rd party read every piece of email for one to have an integrated set of email-tied-in features" is seen as a time of a dark and unfortunate past, and for leadership from the web standards teams at google

GUI desktop mail clients have had those features for nearly 20 years; it does not make email any more a part of the web than it was two decades prior.
