There seems to be confusion about how, exactly, Apple keeps the web second-class on iOS. Understandable! It's the interplay of several interlocking effects. Let's examine them (thread).https://twitter.com/slightlylate/status/1190665796717957120 …

iOS is worst-case-scenario for the web, full stop. It's hard to overstate how insidious and widespread its impact has been. https://twitter.com/JoubranJad/status/1190665122831912962 …

Before you go out attacking software and other companies you should consider looking within. There could be an entire thread written about how ironic this thread is coming from someone who works on @googlechrome.

Believe me, Alex is MUCH more critical than this about Chrome. He just usually doesn't need to take to Twitter to effect change in that case. But yes, we have lots to improve. What's your #1? We're listening!

#1 thing to improve on @googlechrome? Sorry, too many to give 1. Bad battery life, resource hog, the fact @Google favorites Chrome in practically every decision made. I’m curious what Google’s true mission with Chrome is. Google is an ad company. They don’t care about privacy.

It’s just difficult to take @slightlylate seriously here. Maybe he is “MUCH more critical than this about Chrome”. But who knows, that isn't public. If change is really the goal, that thread doesn’t achieve that. Go back and read it. It’s attacking the competitor. That is it.

The scariest thing for web browsers these days is the fact that @MicrosoftEdge is switching to Chromium. So now to be attacking Safari (a browser that still provides competition) then hide behind the “promoting competition” and “effecting change” narrative is sad.

Put yourselves in the shoes of, e.g., the Edge team. Why might they choose to work with us in Chromium? Why have other vendors (Samsung, Opera, UC, LG, etc. etc.) done the same when, to a one, they could fund their own ground-up teams or pick another OSS project to work in?

Because they are handing more control of the web over to @Google. Which is a TERRIBLE idea. Don't you think Google has enough power as is? If that argument is legit, then why not just have 1 browser? I know browsers need huge investment to survive, but competition is also needed.

Anyone can make a Chromium browser, it's not just Google.
