Definitely not worse than IE11. And yes, there are those of us out there mandated to still support IE11

Absolutely worse than IE11, because Windows isn't web-hostile. You can change browser on Windows and that can be a meaningful choice. On iOS, it's Hotel Cupertino -- you can check out any time you like, but you'll still be using gimped WebKit.

When competition is undermined at such a fundamental level, progress takes only the courses the keepers find profitable.

Hm... I hear you, but also there enough ‘chrome-only’ google experiences that have cropped up that argument feels a bit hollow.

I get passion. It’s cool. But the web is so diverse and we’re all doing different stuff. From where I sit, I’ll maintain that IE is a bigger issue for my day to day. But I understand the greater overall struggle and I empathize. Really I do. The web should get better.

That being said - I need to read more about PWAs. I’m curious about other support. Was this something google cooked up? Is there broader support for this in the w3c? I know there are answers, I just need to do some hw.

Mozilla, Samsung, Microsoft, and Google all support PWAs, and Apple has added the core features recently. All standards-based.
