Re-reading the thread I think the problem here is that the only credible alternative to iOS is Android, which regardless of browser choice is a data funnel for Google. So as a developer I sympathise with your call, but as a user I can’t see a world where I choose to use Android.

You can live without Google's services on Android though! (Or for an easier life, http://microg.org is also an option.) It's not ideal and totally not user-friendly but in it's the best we can have right now IMO.

And Google is pushing amp which is a subversion of the open web for the sole benefit of Google. Of the two Google is by far the bigger threat to the open web as it's actively hostile whereas apple is sidelining it.
