the same garbage reasoning has been used by Facebook for political ads and Google over Maven/Pentagon contracts the missing piece is that it's never about the *current* contract, it's that the business wants to court larger contracts from the same clients in the future

...which also undercuts the "but it's not a big contract" and "it's just exploratory work" defenses. Lying about the intent is what really destroys trust.
