You can add location information to your Tweets, such as your city or precise location, from the web and via third-party applications. You always have the option to delete your Tweet location history. Learn more
I agree with a lot of what you say in general, and I think you already know that. You and I are basically fighting the same battle against front end bloat.
But I hope you can understand why people are skeptical that a Google project always acts in the best interest of the web.
