Agree that Apple should allow alternate engines but the linked bug here sort of seems like Hanlon’s Browser to me?

Core issue is investment level; Apple caps what's possible *and* underfunds the WebKit/Safari team. So, I guess, Grey's Browser.

I ask myself, how does Chrome’s rising market share affect the web? Are there negative consequences? As much as Apple’s decision to disallow alt. browser engines on iOS is clearly wrong, it did accomplish that WebKit’s market share remained stable (~15% globally).

If Apple hadn’t done this, Chrome’s share would today be over 70%, maybe even 75%. What if the potential dominance of one browser is so bad for the web that it’s worse than every other bad thing that’s happening on the web? In that case Apple’s decision would be the lesser evil.

This guy is on point
! There's really no freedom to choose your own browser if you're using iOS. Whatever browser you choose on iOS, you're stuck with old, underfunded tech that is slowing down the web.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
