The Koban (cop) patrolling through the car stopped at my seat. I'm *obviously* not from around here & he leaned over and said "in 5-10 minutes, you'll be able to see Mt. Fuji from your seat" then left with a smile. Imagine that interaction with a cop on transit in the US.

Mount Fuji view.
Super friendly staff.
Amazing speed.
No Wi-Fi yet on my Tokaido-Sanyō Shinkansen (but soon).
Coming from Germany
:
No random car reordering that messes with reservations.
No late trains (AFAICT).
No confusing track changes. -
Once you've taken Caltrain, even Regionalbahn feels like the future.
