The Samsung Chromebook (or pixel if you want to spend the dollars) is hella good and hella cheap (crostini is v cool). I switched from a good era mbp and didn't miss it a bit.

Depends.. I was using sublime locally (I keep it pretty minimal) and online editors like glitch a lot, but I don't see why you couldn't use vs code or whatever you like.

Crostini gives you access to Linux, I don't see why it's different than installing sublime or running node. I think maybe it was

I've got Sublime and VSCode working great on my Chromebook Pixel w/ Crostini. There's some startup lag, but once Linux is started everything is good. Took a bit of fiddling to get fonts and scaling right in Sublime.
