I'm not disagreeing, but interestingly I've heard from a lot of publishers that they want the in-app browsing experience for their own PWAs. Would you say that's an acceptable use-case? Overall I'd say that in some applications, there's an argument around UX/friction.

As a user I wish I could opt out of these custom in-app browsers. They are a poor experience all around.

But if they use a real browser then they can't inject tracking code into the sites you visit :P

Every time I click a link in Gmail on iOS I crinch and try to open Safari as fast as possible; hoping the link didn't have a nonce that got invalidated.

oh that is the _worst_. get a reset/confirmation link, tap and hit the safari button as fast as you can... gmail app (iOS) is by far the worst offender out of the apps I use.

I totally agree. I hate in-app browsers. I hate it in the Facebook app, and the Twitter app. And I also hate it in Google's own Gmail and Google Now.
