Frontend work is about constructing wide, well-lit, sturdy, accessible, efficient, and reliable bridges between computers and the humans they are meant to serve. Getting this relationship backward causes so much pain for everyone.

Sometimes serving the computer is serving the humans though. Sympathy for the CPU, battery, & network should encourage you to not tax them, and in turn make the humans happier.

Sure, and sympathy for the machine sometimes makes all the difference in doing a good job for the user! But centering the user is what matters. A switchback is not the mountain.
