Agreed. People will definitely use it as a baseline for their own apps

I want to believe, but the litany of excuses I have gotten showing Polymer Shop vs. rando e-commerce shop frontend has really beaten me down. Managers are never more creative than whilst defending their disasters from objective evaluation.

Toy apps written by 1 performance guru do not translate to commercial apps written by 50 engineers of various skills under time restrictions that optimize for cost/benefit. These only show "it is possible technically" but completely ignore the organizational complexities & ROI.

This is the reason AMP has been successful whereas multiple years of trying to up level the community through perf education failed. AMP blocked complexities via impenetrable restrictions. There is a lot more to software development than the technical bits.

Nah; AMP has been successful because it pulled the world's biggest incentive lever. If Search made performance as big a deal as format, this could be similarly impactful

Personally, I think there is a lot to learn from frameworks and demos. Absolute raw performance is very rarely the single determining factor for success. But performance is an important factor. Users benefit if all products shipped to the web are fast by default.

I think we can all agree it does come down to ROI. It's not just technical, org.complexity and business impact like clicks for search is a huge part of it. (Though the latter is easier to measure...)
