This thread is dead-on, but I'll add one more bit of context: when I (not speaking for others) criticize current state, it's because it *sucks for developers too*. Blame the frameworks and those who push them because they are easier to learn than vanilla js. They don't teach devs to write efficient code anymore, everything is npm install this, npm install that. They expect the compilers to remove the bloat.

Sweet XML Jesus, enough with the elitism. Outside a few places data's not cheap, and phones aren't state of the art. And most people use the web on a phone. This is about access and inclusion, not "ad delivery."
