The lack of a clear path to server rendered content that can be progressively enhanced is my #1 sticking point too.
Cool thing about tech is things change. Imagine this could spark a v3 discussion.

as a technique in isolation it works really well. the currently popular tools that transpile are terrible at it for sure.

SSR rendering can be cached, and if used w progressive JS, TTI === TFCP. The fact that some frameworks are bad at this distracts from the point. WC *cant* do it. At least not yet.
