It's weird to me that Google is accused of steamrolling standards by being open, while Apple literally ships new features unannounced and without discussion at all like it did with dark mode, and I see no hubbub about that.

I would review the language used in half a dozen recent posts and web-dot-dev and other Google properties announcing prototyped platform features. The message generally goes like "Don't you hate it when you have this problem? There is a new Web Standard for that!"

Then at the very bottom, "by the way this is a prototype and is not in every browser yet"; no words on standards track, no warning that it may never ship in Chrome stable. Doesn't help that the "web-dot-dev" domain adds to the confusion on what is an established web standard.
