One of the benefits of standardization through W3C Working Groups is diversity of input. W3C requires the consideration of all feedback, requires consensus to move forward. The diversity of vendor perspectives considered *matters*, because different vendors have different values.

The net result of OSS collaboration in this area has been that conforms t Grid landed in Chrome at the same time as other engines, but we were also able to implement leading features in other areas (vars, OM, Houdini, etc.). Who "lost" here?

It's not that odd. After all, it's hard to craft and hold onto an anti-Google stance if WebKit/Safari are in the same boat. Better to just focus on the hypocrisy of being "anti" just one.
