I could make my life, and the life of my team, much much easier if we did what you're accusing. But we don't. Our process is audaciously public and uncomfortably raw specifically to enable you to engage and collaborate should you care about the feature or space.

And again, these proposals are malleable and we want others to collaborate. The defacto oppositional frame in this conversation is...unhelpful.

Collaboration has to involve dissent. If people can't say "no, we think this is a bad idea" - then you need to find a different word than collaboration. (For the record, I think toast is an excellent idea. But I'm not the majority of users.)

I read the landscape review - which cites 3 other Google projects - but couldn't find any mention of users. Do they like toasts? Do they use them? Which features do users find valuable? Which ones do they hate? Web Developers aren't the only users.

UXR for UI controls, again, tends to implicate PII. I can ask the team a out what research they're planning to do (but so can you).
