Google to restrict modern ad blocking Chrome extensions to enterprise users https://9to5google.com/2019/05/29/chrome-ad-blocking-enterprise-manifest-v3/ … Google: "New and existing technologies could affect our ability to customize ads and/or could block ads online, which would harm our business."

.. but I still think there needs to be a better way for content creators to monetise their content without having to run ads that disrupt UX or compromise security/ privacy. (Which is my main point)

Sure, and I'm with you there! That doesn't read on the question of the motivation for these changes or the accuracy of this article, tho (which, to be clear, is grossly misrepresenting the situation by innuendo and shoddy headline writing).

Fair enough. I also note
@shwetank's response that "it's also important to note that V3 isn't final yet. There are improvements to it that could come (the chrome team already did some after that initial v3 announcement)." https://twitter.com/shwetank/status/1134029817563754497 … (Hope to catch his talk.) ....Thanks. Having said that, no ad blocker that I know of likes Apple's approach here either. However, the chrome team does seem to be looking into studying this further and not doing exactly as them from what I can tell, which is why i'm not as pessimistic about it as many others are.

Comparing to an organisation that firmly believes they know better than their users and closed closely held eco-systems doesn't assuage me to that while the engineering intent might be "pure" the real world application not be.

Point taken; what's the critique separate to that? That the list size is too small? Something else?
