I have a similar question. Seeing lots of rewrites to get out of Framework/NPM debt already = (https://twitter.com/brianleroux/status/1130841031241371649 …

Heard many stories like this over the years. Wonder if this is even possible with modern SPA frameworks in the webpack ecosystem. Probably not. My guess: lots of big bang rewrites in the future. (And those don't usually do so well ..unless you're the consultant!) https://twitter.com/jeffrey_way/status/1130565884194504704 …

Worse, I frequently don't have a shorter path to success for teams other than "please rewrite; here are some better starting places..."

Seen a considerable number of people lately who are convinced they have to use virtual Dom libraries for everything because someone told them the Dom was slow in 2013. Gonna be fun to rewrite all that code later I bet

...and OMG, the only (honest) thing anyone ever claimed was that VDOM was fast-enough (mostly on desktop) _given the massive amount of work it creates_. That is, nobody paying attention ever bought "VDOM is fast", only "VDOM can be fast enough***" ***: details, also devil, here

At least theoretically microfrontends architecture can solve this problem. Such approach allows for small, incremental rewrites, component by component. Also, a rise of webcomponents as a target for frameworks, will make this problem easily solvable.

The JS ecosystem took out some high-interest payday loans and now the interest is starting to bite.

Maybe the real answer is to push for innovations in syntax analysis and transformation. That way you can use 1gig of node_modules and “super tree shaking +” will trim it down to whatever LOC you actually need.
