This, by @ow, is going to be my response the next time someone tries to DX-splain me:https://char.gd/blog/2019/you-dont-need-that-hipster-web-framework …

Most of the teams I consult with don't talk about their remediation journeys -- for some reason we all have to pretend we always make good choices and that the popular tools aren't actually broken -- but this gets at the upfront choice costs in a relatable way.

I share @ow's sentiment, but I feel there is something missing in the article. The part about how @rails gets out of the way, and there isn't anything like it for JavaScript/frontend isn't true. @emberjs is for FE what @rails is for BE or traditional web apps. /1

But so many people seem to omit @emberjs in their writing, because it's not a shiny new thing that all the cool kids are talking about. I love Ember because getting an idea sketched out is so easy with it. You can focus on building the product, and not the flashy tech behind it.

First @tomdale was defending React, now you've got me defending Vue ;) Do people really think things like React, Vue, GraphQL don't require dedicated time to learn? Was that how it was in the Halcyon days of PHP? A quick skim of a blog and folks were off building serious stuff?

1/ The challenge is doin vanillaJS means you HAVE TO build some basic reusable pieces. The challenge is to keep that small otherwise, it becomes its own frramework. Few succeed. I have struggled with this at our company for years.

Interesting article, but odd. Makes a good case for not using a tool, but then uses them anyway. Maybe projects don't need them, but CVs do.

I think I could have better connected this, but was trying to say that it's not about AVOIDING tools, but not reinventing your whole stack, rather than do it incrementally with what you know

The moral of the story to me is unrelated to modern frameworks and instead “don’t try to learn new tech if all you care about is shipping”.
