"Usage of these experiments is constrained to remain below Chrome’s deprecation threshold (< 0.5% of all Chrome page loads) by a system which automatically disables the experiment on all origins if this threshold is exceeded."

"The time-limited nature of an origin trial means that these features will self destruct after a few months [...] no large site can use these features in production thanks to the usage constraint, so we cannot be pressured into extending origin trials by powerful parties."

Jason Chase and his team in Waterloo built this out and have been running it since then, with major upgrades along the way. The dashboard is relatively new (and very nice!)

OT allows us to be more evidence-driven when evaluating if/when to ship features, particularly the sort where we're out on a limb by shipping first.

We shamelessly stole the idea for OT from
@jacobrossi, and I'm confused why more browsers don't follow suit. Neither the presumption that shipping must be ultra-high-risk, nor that we need to drop vendor-prefixed turds into the ecosystem seems justified in an OT world.3 replies 3 retweets 9 likes -

I love that "shamelessly stole" is open standards speak for "ran with the idea proposed by Jacob at an open brainstorming session he organized at a W3C event"
. It's really the power of open collaboration!1 reply 0 retweets 11 likes -

I actually suggested the same idea to
@RickByers at the first (or second?) BlinkOn in SF as we dropped doing -webkit-* prefixes and I was afraid how that would affect dev feedback. Then heard at the following TPAC that MS had a similar idea2 replies 0 retweets 2 likes -
