First, the team that brought us https://squoosh.app showed more of what's possible from a single codebase with their new minesweeper, https://proxx.app . This PWA reaches all the way from feature-phones to desktop:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w8P5HLxcIO4&list=PLNYkxOF6rcIATmAmz7HcCzongGvQEtx8i&index=5&t=0s …

Speaking of desktop...did you know that PWAs are now installable directly from Chrome on Windows, Mac, CrOS, and even Linux?
@dominickng shows us how!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2KhRmFHLuhE&list=PLNYkxOF6rcIATmAmz7HcCzongGvQEtx8i&index=9&t=0s …3 replies 2 retweets 23 likesShow this thread -
We have been busy on mobile, too. The name is confusing, but Trusted Web Activities are the tech that power 1800flowers' app in the Play Store...and what's inside? Their Polymer PWA!
@andreban and@b1tr0t talk through the "how":https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6lHBw3F4cWs&list=PLNYkxOF6rcIATmAmz7HcCzongGvQEtx8i&index=15&t=0s …1 reply 0 retweets 8 likesShow this thread -
That's right, users can install the exact same experience from Play as from the organic PWA install banner that Chrome and other browsers show. One codebase, one deployment path to reach all of desktop and 80% of mobile, thanks to the web.

(technically, they can also install via Safari too, but you'll have to add extra UI to your app to show users how)

Will there be a standard, agreed by all the browser vendors for this, long term? We don’t want those god-awful “add to home screen” style popups again.

You're seeing us move the promo UI to the omnibox on desktop ("omnibox installation"), which follows what @samsunginternet and @opera have done. I think that's the natural end-state for all true PWA-supporting browsers.
Sadly, Chrome-for-Android lags there.

I noticed Edge for Mac uses that pattern too, which is nice. It all feels very quick too.

Should be, on desktop it's a totally local operation!
