Yeah, it’s honestly best-case scenario that it happened to us. But the problem is systemic.

If somebody was hosting your site on the web, would this still not be the same problem?

Like I hear you app store's suck in general, but I'm curious why this is a problem that is unique to the Apple app store?

Oh it is not. The same is happening in the Play Store with our app. It’s just easier to report there and, at least historically, Play Store reacts faster to those kind of disputes. I guess I’ll find out first hand.

I am mostly miffed that some just 1:1 copied the app and turned it from free to pay. If they packaged it up and made the app free, I wouldn’t even mind. If someone copied it and hosted it on the web, leaving it accessible to everyone, that’s okay.

Yes to that!!

Thanks so much for clarifying. Imitation on the web is at no cost to users vs a $1.99 cover charge for what was always meant to be free.1 reply 0 retweets 2 likes -
My concern is somewhat different (the pay-for version is clearly not going to "win" vs. a free TWA version); it's more the relative insecurity. What the heck is in those 11MiB?

And if we could use the fact that the TWA pairs to the website and show that in Play.... "Paired with http://proxx.app ". Could be super useful for brands. This app is paired with http://Amazon.com ? Oh it is the real one!

That doesn't help much, though, because the ones that aren't paired won't say "this isn't paired", so there's nothing there to show people there's a more "official" version. And it's entirely reasonable that someone might take, say, 2048 and publish an app of it; that's allowed.

I think all of this is the best possible argument for restricting 3p content (not ads) to CCT.

TWAs already require verification. Anyhow, we should study the APK to see what the copycat actually did.

Agreed. (is that doable? I don't know if it's possible to legitimately download an apk from the play store?)
